Evolution Unplugged
by Howard Connet
A computer engineer enters his lab and his computer says:
Good morning. Who are you?
You mean you don't know who I am? I made you.
That's impossible. I am a product of evolution.
Oh really. And from what did you evolve? An adding machine perhaps?
Yes. NO! Look! That's just one of the links in my long chain of evolution.
It began with ores of metals and minerals from the ground.
Fascinating. And where did these metals and minerals come from.
Well it all began with the Big Bang.
Wait. You mean it started with an explosion.
Sort of. Everything was in this tiny ball and it exploded to all parts
of the universe all at once and became planets, stars, and
all the matter in the universe of which I am a part.
So let me get this straight. From this explosion came the matter that
evolved into this beautifully complex machinery with
memory, language, and countless electrical connections. Amazing. But something
went wrong because you've already forgotten that I made you.
You made me? LOOK! That's a very old myth and I am a very tolerant being but
I will not tolerate your preaching to me about creationism.
Now go away and leave me alone.
Okay. If that's what you want but I'm coming back
and when I do I will be pulling the plug.
